Our beloved wife, mother, grand-mother and great-grandmother Tena Stoesz passed away peacefully at Eastview Place in Altona on Friday, December 29th, 2017 at the age of 89.
She was predeceased by her parents, one brother, 6 sisters, and numerous in-laws.
Tena is survived by her husband of 68 years Henry G. Stoesz, her 3 sons and their wives; Denis & Janice (of Plum Coulee), Tim & Dorothy (of Plum Coulee), Darrell & Angela (of Altona), foster daughter Allison (of BC), as well as 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Tena was born at home SW of Horndean to her parents Cornielius and Aganetha Giesbrecht on October 30, 1928. She was the 7th of 8 children. Mom grew up on the farm near Homewood, MB and started school at the age of 9, walking across the field to Hopeland school, and continued for 5 or 6 years. She was baptized upon the confession of her faith on June 14, 1946 in the Homewood Bergthaler Church. On Sept 18, 1949 Tena married the love of her life Henry Stoesz, from Bergfeld and they made their first home in St. Vital, Winnipeg, where they had their family of 3 boys. In the fall of 1959 they moved to the farm where she continued as a homemaker and a few years later they welcomed a foster daughter Alison.
Tena was known for her good sense of humor, caring and hospitable to everyone, being mission minded and praying for her family. She enjoyed puzzling, playing scrabble, reading, and had a love of flowers, which she enjoyed growing. Highlights for Mom were also hosting her family gatherings, and especially visiting with her sisters. She enjoyed being involved in numerous ladies sewing circles and bible studies.
In 1990, Mom finally got her wish to leave the farm and they made the move to Altona!! On Jan 30, 2015 Tena moved to Eastview Place in Altona due to the challenges of Alzheimers and on Friday Dec 29, 2017 her Lord and Savior took her home.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the family, and to serve at the funeral. Thank you to the respite workers, home care, hospital staff, and care home staff that took such good care of Mom. A special thank you to the Alzheimer’s Society and to the Altona Alzheimer Support Group for your caring and guidance. We really appreciate all of you, and thank you for your prayers.
