Larry Abe Winter was born on June 24, 1948 in Altona to parents Abram and Ann Winter. He was the oldest of 3 children. He was predeceased by his parents and nephew Chad.
Larry is survived by the love of his life, wife Annie; daughter Carmen and her husband Chris Friesen, and his son Sean and his wife Kathy. Carmen and Chris blessed him with their children Brooklyn, Kiana, Samual and Taryn. Sean and Kathy brought two more blessings into his life with their sons Matthew and Conner. Larry is also survived by his siblings Sharon and Glenn, and their spouses Nick (Hildebrand) and Deb respectively, as well as many nieces and nephews who love him.
Larry grew up in the Rosenfeld area and attended Rosenfeld school. He was a hard worker and a jack of all trades. His grandkids thought he could fix anything and he would jump to help whenever anyone called. When driving across the prairies, he would point out all the buildings he had left his mark on. Larry didn't only leave his mark physically through his hard work, he impacted many members of the community
For 13 years, he worked at the auto wrecking in Plum Coulee. He made lasting relationships and was greatly missed when he decided he needed a new challenge. That challenge came in the form of owning and operating Winner's Circle Automotive, together with his son Sean. Larry and Sean grew Winner's Circle together and he spent the last 22 years manning the front desk and chatting with whoever came through the door.
While Larry loved work, he was not short of hobbies. Camping, travelling, woodworking and renovating his house were some of the tasks that kept him busy. Larry was also a big music lover, sometimes breaking out his record collection or playing the spoons along to a song while seated around the fire.
Larry's greatest love and pride was his grandchildren. You could often hear him saying how proud he was of his six grandchildren. He would be at every hockey game, concert, and graduation, sticking around afterwards with Annie to offer his congratulations, love, and support.
Larry and Annie were life long loves. They filled their life together with adventures such as camping, travelling the country, and simply living their lives to the fullest, side by side, creating memories together and with their children and grandchildren.
Our brother, dear husband, dad and grandfather became very ill on the morning of Saturday, May 11th. He passed away from a stroke and heart attack on Monday May 13th. He will be so, so missed.
The family thanks the staff at the Altona Health Center, Dr. Basta, and Dr. Winning. They also thank the excellent medical staff at the St. Boniface Cardiac center. The numerous calls, visits and texts are so appreciated, as we have felt your love and support all around us in this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Heart and Stroke Association.
