In 1954 she married Bruno Hamm, briefly living in Winnipeg before settling in Altona.

Katie had a strong commitment to her faith, attending church Ladies Aid group and Bible studies. She also volunteered at the MCC Thrift Store working in the store, sewing blankets and knitting many dishcloths.
In 2008 Katie suffered the first of several strokes from which she made remarkable recoveries which she felt were a calling for her to continue to witness and work for the Lord in whatever capacity she had.
Katie was lovingly surrounded by her family during her last days. The family would like to express its deep gratitude for the compassionate care provided by the Gardens on Tenth, Homecare and Altona Memorial Health Centre staff during her last few months.
