We are sad to share the news that Tina Toews, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend passed away on November 13, just two weeks after she turned 100 years old.
Left to miss her greatly are her daughter Karlene Gartshore (Stephen), son Robert Toews (Marie) granddaughter Kristina Moseley (Tim) and great-grandsons Brenden, Ethan and Lucas, whose presence always made her face light up. Also two sisters and one brother-in-law, Margaret Pruden, Mary Shapansky (George) as well as nieces, nephews and friends.
Mom was predeceased by husband Ben (Benjamin) Toews, parents Cornelius and Katharina Dueck, two brothers, a sister, numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, a daughter-in-law and a great grandson.
Tina grew up the eldest of six children on the family farm in Kleinstadt village, Amsterdam school district. She knew how to work hard but also very much enjoyed her pet dogs, music and dancing, baseball and playing card games with friends and family.
She married Ben Toews March 24, 1951 and joined him on the small family farm in Lichtfeld, Neu Huffnung (New Hope) district, diligently looking after the family in all ways, from gardening, canning and pickling, raising chickens, cooking up delicious home made-meals and baked goods and becoming skilled in sewing and crochet. She was well known for her delicious home made baking and soups. Karlene and Robert made the little family complete in 1957 and 1960 respectively. Music, games and jigsaw puzzles were always part of life. Tina loved to feed visitors, and there was always something home made and delicious to be had. And as long as they were able, Ben and Tina loved to dance together, whether polka, schottische, fox trot or waltz!
Ben and Tina moved to Altona in 1992, Ben passed away in 2015.
Tina spent her final few years in Eastview care home where she passed away.
We look forward to the day when we see you again, when “He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will morning nor outcry nor pain be any more.”
Viewing will take place at Wiebe Funeral Home Altona on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at a later date at Altona Cemetery.
