Jacob J. Klassen

Jacob J. Klassen of Altona, formerly of Halbstadt, was born on November 4^th, 1929 to John and Helen Klassen of Horndean.  He was the 3^rd of 10 children and attended the Horndean school.

Dad was baptised at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in 1950 by Bishop Peter Toews.

Dad married Mary Hildebrand of Halbstadt on July 5^th, 1951 on her parents yard under the trees.  It was a very nice and sunny day.  They celebrated their honeymoon by going to the beet field the next day.  In 2001 they celebrated 50 years together.

Dad bought the family farm in 1957 and worked incredibly hard.  They had 7 children and the Halbstadt family farm was always the place to be, whether summer or winter.  In 1996 they moved to Altona.  Here they continued to nurture their relationships with their children, and dad kept busy doing woodworking.  He was often seen out having supper or coffee with friends.

Dad passed away peacefully at Eastview Place on March 28^th at the age of 92.  Left to cherish his memories are his children: Allan, Betty (Dennis), Jean (Ken), Doreen (Daryl), Julie (Jeff), Pauline (Glenn), along with 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by 2 sisters and 4 brothers.  He was predeceased by his wife Mary, his son Gary, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and long time family friend Charles Whiting.

Dad has so much love for his wife Mary, the reunion between these two would have been beautiful to see.

Dad was lovingly surrounded by family during his last days.  The family would like to express its deep gratitude to the staff at Eastview for their compassionate care.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Altona Sommerfeld Mennonite Church with burial at the Blumenthal Cemetery.

Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home Altona on Thursday, March 31 from 1:00 - 9:00 p.m., Friday, April 1 from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m., and at the church prior to the service.
