Jacob J. Rempel

Jacob Rempel, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother, age 97 years, of Altona, formerly of the Gretna area, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Eastview Place.

Jacob is survived by his children, Susan (David) Reid, Elaine (Garry) Russell, Esther (Ken) Enns, Harv (Eva) Rempel, Marlene (Ralph) Wagner, and Steve (Carol) Rempel, as well as 10 grandchildren, Lukas (Juanita), Janel (Ken), Karis (Izzy), Ruben (Jennifer), Matthew (Maureen), Tonya (Jared), Maxine, James, Emily(Graham), and Evan, and 16 great grandchildren, Anthony, Aimee, Annabelle, Logan, Parker, Omar, Ayah, Arwa, Mohamad, Brayden, Dakota, Drey, Kolby, Leo, Caleb, and Cora. He was also survived by brother Bill(Tina), sisters Justina and Margaret(Bill) as well as in-laws Bernie, Dave(Opal), Helen, and Marie as well as a large extended family.

Dad was born and grew up in Blumenort on November 1, 1926, to Jacob and Justina Rempel. He married Gertrude Wiebe in 1950, and they lived on the farm and raised their six children near Blumenort South till 1989, when they moved to Altona. Together, they enjoyed extensive travels throughout Canada and the USA in their retirement. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before Gertrude passed away in 2016.

Dad had a keen interest in the lives of their extended family, phoned them often and prayed for them daily. Besides the work of farming, he enjoyed woodworking, reading, fishing, and served on various church and school committees as well as the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and Ebenezer boards.

A celebration of Jacob’s life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:30am at the Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church with a private interment prior to the service at the Altona Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Eastview Place, Ebenezer, and Gardens on Tenth for their care for Jacob. Special thanks to Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church for their pastoral care and Wiebe's Funeral Home for arrangements.
