Ivan Louis Wiebe
January 3, 1948 - July 4, 2019
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ivan Wiebe at the age of 71. Ivan will be greatly missed and forever loved by his wife, Lilly, children, James (Dale), Michael (Kerry), Cindy (Marvin), and Tanya; his grandchildren, Desireé, Matthew, Jasmine, Anna, Cody, Alexandra and Megan. Ivan is survived by his sisters and brother; Judy (John), Evelyn, Leonard (Dorothy) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernhard and Agnes, his brother, Wilfred and brother in law, Pete. He is sadly missed by his pets, 2 dogs- Romeo, Sybil, and 2 cats - Tiger and Pearl.
Although we will miss, Ivan immensely, we are better to have known him. He struggled with heart issues up to his passing. We are blessed to know that he does not have to suffer anymore and he is at peace. Until his later years, Ivan enjoyed his career as a Captain on boats steering the course of many ships, transporting goods to communities in the Northwest Territories. During his career, he even was involved in breaking ice to save whales that had become trapped by the ice. A heroic venture to many but to Ivan it was a mission he did not question nor need the recognition.
Ivan loved spending time with family and friends. He was the life of the party and had a great sense of humor. Ivan came into the lives of Lilly’s family when he fell in love with their mom. Ivan certainly had many pieces of wisdom to bestow upon us. He was a very deep thinker and had a joy of debating issues and solving problems. He will always be remembered for asking everyone at the dinner table, ‘you know why this supper is so good? Because it was made with looooove!’ and also for making sure we kept in mind the 5 P’s of life when making important decisions – previous preparation prevents poor performance. He was so amazed and proud of all his grandchildren. He made sure that they were spoiled before they went home to their parents. To treat his grandchildren when visiting on summer vacation, Ivan would make sure that they had the pick of ice cream and sundae ingredients for breakfast. The family always knew when he was taking you for a fancy dinner because he wore suspenders. You know you were loved by Ivan.
The place that you hold in our minds is as big as the place you hold in our hearts. Ivan, you will be forever remembered and loved.
In honor of Ivan’s wishes, a private family gathering will take place to celebrate Ivan’s life.
In memory of Ivan, donations can be made to your choice of humane society or animal shelter.
