Hilda Wiebe

Hilda Wiebe, age 87 years, of Altona, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Eastview Place, Altona. 

Hilda was born March 5, 1937, to parents Cornelius and Margaretha Voth in Altona, MB. She is survived by her husband David or Dave or Doft, (depending on her mood); son Brad (Carol) & sons Mitchell and Garrett; daughter Wendy (Tim) Hunt & children Briar, Brady (Katrina), Dane (Chelsea) Loewen; daughter Teresa (Gord) Klippenstein and sons lan (Leah) and Alec (Jennifer). She was blessed with 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Frieda (Jake) Sawatzky.

Hilda grew up in Kleinstadt, MB with her 6 siblings and moved to Sommerfeld, MB when she was 11. There she met the man she would eventually marry - "the boy next door" although their houses were separated by the village church. She was baptized in the Altona Bergthaler Church in 1955 and married the love of her life on June 22, 1956.

Shortly thereafter they moved to southern Ontario and were blessed with 3 children. As if that wasn't busy enough, she always had a full time out of the home employment and even found time to volunteer for St. John's Ambulance.

In 1976, the family moved back to where it all began - Sommerfeld, MB. She found her favourite job ever - working at Ebenezer Home for the Aged in housekeeping.

Mom was known for gifting many pairs of handmade slippers and mittens and countless pails of homemade caramel corn. Mom loved nothing more than her grandchildren except maybe a good practical joke. Her and Dad travelled many a mile following their grandkids to all their activities.

Mom was admitted to Eastview Place in June of 2022. While the staff said she never complained and always had a smile or witty remark, we know that the separation from dad was a daily struggle.

The family so appreciated the care and compassion given to Hilda, Mom, Gramma, and Great Gramma during these last 2 years.

Momma, your pain has ended, and you are now home!

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church. 

Viewing will be on Tuesday, August 6 from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Wiebe Funeral Home Altona.
