Ben Giesbrecht

Peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024, Ben Giesbrecht passed away at the Altona Memorial Health Centre.

Ben was born on July 7, 1943 to Cornelius and Eva (Harder) Giesbrecht in Winkler, MB. He grew up on the family farm and moved to Altona with his parents as a teen. He later moved to Winnipeg and enrolled in trade school. 

On May 28, 1965 Ben married the love of his life Susan (Peters). Shortly after the wedding they moved to BC where they spent the next 50 years. Most of their years in BC were spent living in Surrey where they raised their two sons Dion and Cory. Ben enjoyed coaching the boys in their sports and was always there to support them. He patiently showed the boys how to fix and build whatever they wanted to work on. Ben found peace with God while living in Surrey and he continued to grow this relationship with God until he passed. 

Ben worked in his trade as a welder, fabricator and millwright until his retirement in 2008 at age 65. After six years of retirement the decision was made to return to Manitoba to be closer to their extended family. They enjoyed living close to family and added many new dear friends over the last number of years. Life was challenging at times for Ben after Susan passed away in 2022. While in hospital he really appreciated the visits from family and friends. Thank you to all that took the time to stop in and brighten his day.

Ben is survived by his son Dion (Juanita) Giesbrecht, grandchildren Bryce and Alyssa, brother Cornelius, and sister Edna. He was predeceased by his wife Susan, son Cory, brothers Henry and Frank, sisters Margaret, Eva, Helen, Gertrude and Nora. 

We as a family are thankful for each and every one that has shown their support to us during this time. Your prayers, cards, texts, food, and other expressions of love have been and are so greatly appreciated.

Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home Altona on Thursday, October 17 from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Interment will take place prior to the service on Friday, October 18 at 10:15 a.m. at the Altona Cemetery.

Following the interment a celebration of Ben's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Altona EMM Church.
