Anna Buhler

Anna Buhler, age 93 years passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the Altona Memorial Health Centre.

She was born to Peter and Maria (Wiebe) Buhler on January 17, 1931 in the Reichenbach S.D.

She was predeceased by her parents; brothers Diedrich (Anna Sawatzky), and Peter (Eva Friesen); sisters Mary (Jake Reimer), Sarah (Ben Lemky), and Tina (Jake Redekopp). She is survived by sister Lena (Herman Hildebrand), and nieces and nephews and their families.

She was baptized in 1951 and accepted into the Sommerfelder Church, and later transferred her membership to the Reinlander Church.

Her parents moved to the Amsterdam S.D. in 1938 where she went to school for six and a half years. Some years later she took Grades 9 and 10 by correspondence at home.

Her parents retired from farming and moved to Altona in 1961 and she moved with them. She worked in garment factories there and at Friesen's in the bindery department operating book binding equipment.

She enjoyed visiting back and forth with friends and family. A hobby was exchanging letters with pen friends both in Canada and other countries. She liked to travel in Canada and also went to Bolivia to visit her brother Peter and family. A highlight of her travels was a trip to the Middle East which included a four day trip to the Holy Land. For many years she took part in Bible studies. After retirement she busied herself with clerking at the MCC store and for about 20 years mending and stitching blanket tops for them; doing petit point embroidery, reading, and going for walks.

Anna lived in apartments, had her own house for a while, and in 2002 moved into the Gardens on Tenth (Ebenezer) complex. Besides doing her own housework she took part in various activities planned for seniors.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Reinland Mennonite Church, Altona with burial at the Schoenthal Cemetery.  Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home Altona on Wednesday, January 15 from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m., and at the church prior to the service.
