Amanda Hildebrand

August 3, 1915 — December 4, 2016

Amanda Hildebrand

Amanda Hildebrand, the eldest of 9 children, was born August 3, 1915 to parents Henry H. & Aganetha Hildebrand in Edinburg, Manitoba.   She died peacefully, with her sister Linda and niece Laurie at her side, at Eastview Place in Altona in the afternoon of Sunday, December 4th, 2016 at the age of 101 years.

She was predeceased by her parents, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.  She is survived by one sister, Linda Braun, one sister-in-law, Doreen Hildebrand, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Amanda was baptized upon her confession of faith on June 5, 1938 at the Sommerfelder church.  Then on May 29, 2005 she transferred her membership to the Altona Bergthaler Church.  When she could no longer attend the church services there, she enjoyed participating in devotionals at Eastview.

Amanda loved to help people, and when she was quite young she moved to Windsor, Ontario where she cooked and cleaned for elderly ladies.  She had some interesting stories to tell about her time in Windsor, and she enjoyed sharing those stories with friends.  She remained in Windsor for about 30 years and then she moved back to Gretna to help take care of her aging parents.  After her parents passed away, Amanda moved to the Poplars in Altona.  Eventually it became necessary for her to move to the Ebenezer apartments and then in 2012 she was moved to Eastview, where she resided until her passing.

Amanda had a heart of gold, a wonderful outlook on life, and a great sense of humor.  She was always more concerned about the next person than she was about herself.  She loved God and she loved life.  She has been a blessing to many, many people over the span of her lifetime.  Amanda will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known her.

We the family would like to thank the staff at Eastview Place for the excellent care given and kindness shown to Amanda during her stay there.  And thanks to the many friends who stopped by to visit her and helped brighten her day – although it may very well have been the other way around.  And we’d like to thank the drivers of the Care Van who made it possible for Amanda to go on outings, which she so enjoyed.  And special thanks to Pastor Virginia Gerbrandt-Richert and everyone else who gave of their time to help with the service.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church.
